| OLVER ANNOUNCES $5,565,400 FOR RCAP SOLUTIONS |
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representatives John W. Olver (D-1st District) announced today that RCAP Solutions has been awarded a US Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 202 grant award. RCAP Solutions will receive $5,565,400 to construct a 36-unit apartment building for low-income seniors on Dudley Road in Townsend.
The building will consist of 36 one-bedroom apartments with senior friendly design details. For example, bathrooms will have ample space for maneuvering with a walker or cane, showers will be outfitted by a built in seat and grab bar, and the thermostats will have large, easy to read numbers. The town of Townsend, which chose RCAP Solutions as the developer, contributed the project site at not cost for the purpose of creating this housing.
"RCAP Solutions does excellent work and I am very pleased that HUD recognized that with this grant," Congressman John Olver said. "This project will not only provide an affordable, safe place for low-income seniors to live, but also supportive services that will allow seniors to remain in their homes."
Paul Teixeira, Vice President of RCAP Solution, said, "RCAP Solutions, the Townsend Housing Authority, Gagnier, Hicks Associates as well as many local boards and commissions have been working on this project for nearly 5 years so it very gratifying to have received notification from Congressman Olver’s office that we have been successful in securing this grant. The grant will allow the development of an additional 36 units of elder, supportive affordable housing and will help the town to meet its affordable housing objective. RCAP Solutions looks forward to moving this project forward and realizing a development that will become an asset to the community".
"I look forward to working with RCAP Solutions on the creation of 36 new units of badly needed housing here in Townsend," Greg Barnes, Town Manager of Townsend, said. "This project will go a long way towards increasing the amount of affordable housing for the elderly in our community."
The Section 202 program allows elderly persons, including the frail elderly, to live as independently as possible in the community by increasing the supply of rental housing with the availability of supportive services.
RCAP Solutions is headquartered in Gardner, Massachusetts and has nearly 100 people at work in nine states, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, providing safe affordable housing; building and managing water and wastewater facilities; helping communities develop the critical infrastructure they need to thrive; advocating on their behalf; and providing the training and education that helps build know-how, expertise, and capacity.
