Project will on the state level be able to provide technical assistance for protecting water quality in streams and lakes. State partnership programs have been built around USDA programs. NJ Department of Agriculture (NJDA) implemented animal waste rules affecting 7,000 animal owners who must develop within the next 2 years animal waste plans to protect water quality.

Research that will develop disease and insect-resistant varieties, and pest management technologies for the cultivation of blueberry and cranberries that are environmentally safe; continue research to link blue/cranberry consumption and improved health, including prevention of cancer, heart disease, and others; funds will support researcher and technician salaries as well as research supply expenses.

Intense urban development, energy demands, and population density have negatively affected NJ's environment. The Urban-Suburban Extension Program will target the populations in many NJ counties, delivering solutions to help municipalities solve their environmental problems. This project seeks to create comprehensive needs assessments, specifically regarding water resources issues, green jobs training, restoration and urban ecology, targeting parks, opens space rooftops, and vacant lots.
