New York Harbor, NY & NJ (Drift Collection)
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
26 Federal Plaza
New York, NY 10278
For the Army Corps' Drift Collection program in the New York Harbor. The Drift Collection program is critical not only to ensuring safe navigation into and out of one of the world's busiest ports, but also to ensuring clean beaches and healthy tourism along the New Jersey shore. The Army Corps, along with the Environmental Protection Agency's Region 2 Office, is responsible for a "Floatables Action Plan" to collect floating debris in the ocean that could wind up on our beaches. Implementation of the "Floatables Action Plan" has dramatically reduced the number of beach closures due to floating debris.

Rutgers University Livingston Campus Geothermal Energy System
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey
83 Somerset Street
New Brunswick, NJ 08901
To install geothermal technology to support the heating and cooling of the redeveloping Livingston Campus. In addition to the .6 million kilowatts of electricity and 46,000 terms of natural gas annually that Rutgers will save with this technology, this project is an ideal showcase as well as a teaching opportunity on the importance of sustainability at the university and across the nation when making energy choices. As New Jersey and the nation continue to strive to reduce carbon emissions, this project, once completed, will significantly reduce the university's energy consumption and our carbon footprint. In addition, this comes to annual cost savings of approximately $290,000 per year.
