For personnel, programming, services related to child violence prevention and treatment for sexual assault. Federal funding is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because 180's programs for youth affected by violence are oversubscribed or have waiting lists. Funding will expand access and enable 2nd Floor youth helpline to reach young people statewide 24/7, allow more children to access Amanda's Easel Art Therapy services, and increase the number of teens served through its Sexual Assault and Rape Care program, helping prevent violence or overcome their experiences with violence.

To create and implement a statewide media and technologically advanced resource mechanism designed to educate parents and teachers with information and strategies to resist drugs and violence.  Drugs and violence continue to threaten the safety of our children and jeopardize their future.  Through the development of the D.A.R.E to Talk program, parents and teachers will be able to increase their knowledge and understanding of the drug temptations available to New Jersey school children, and the steps they can take to help children avoid this pitfall.  This program will help protect the hundreds of thousands of school children who are exposed to drugs and drug related incidents each year.  The effect of this campaign will reach millions of people throughout the state in the media part of the initiative.

For the expansion of services to Long Branch and Red Bank at risk youth with the opening and development of new units.  This program is valuable because it provides services to over 1,200 of the most at risk youth in the County with growth opportunity for another 500 children; providing critical youth development services to children and families with limited resources and little or no support systems.  Programs are based on a youth development strategy that builds self confidence and a sense of belonging in five core areas: character and leadership development; education and career development; health and life skills; the arts; and sports, fitness and recreation.

High School Drug and Violence Prevention Project

To continue services to children and their communities to educate them about the personal and social consequences of substance abuse and violence, utilizing certified classroom teachers and law enforcement officers.  This project is a valuable use of taxpayer funds because the program creates an open dialogue between the school, police, and parents to deal with the difficult issues of drugs and violence, and give teens in need a trusted line of communication.  When children and teens learn to resist drugs and continue to stay drug free, they save the state funds that would be used for rehabilitations services and other resources.

Mid-Atlantic Regional Coastal Community and Ocean Ecosystem Initiative

For mapping and monitoring of coastal resources and development of programs and decision-support tools to enhance community hazard resilience and restoration of habitats.  This project will support the development of regional ecosystem and marine spatial planning management approaches, and community-based strategies to adapt to coastal hazards and inundation.  This initiative will enable Monmouth University to work directly with community, state and regional partners to develop the information and tools needed to identify sources of pollution.  It will also allow for develop and implementation of cost-effective management strategies and policies to reduce pollution, restore and protect critical habitats that support resilient coastal ecosystems and communities, and reduce coastal hazards.

The Middlesex County Gang Violence Prevention and Intervention Initiative

To provide intervention and prevention services to youth involved or at risk of gang involvement.  With the investment in this program, youth will remain in the community with intensive supports and supervision.  Government departments will save money as fewer youth will enter the prison and detention systems.  This program will enable services for an additional 50 high-risk youth and 200 at-risk youth annually.  In addition, approximately 25 new full or part-time jobs will be created as a result of this initiative.

PAL- After School-Non School Hours Project

To provide after school and non school hour opportunities for children involved in the local Police Athletic League Chapters.   With the current economic times, more and more children are finding their way to the streets where gangs and other anti-social behaviors are inviting.  PAL programs would educate and provide support for at-risk youth to help them become productive citizens.

To address the urgent scientific issues limiting successful management of the summer flounder and black sea bass fisheries in the Mid-Atlantic. The PMAFS partnership will address scientific issues limiting successful management of the summer flounder and black sea bass fisheries. Over the last decade, programs designed to resolve such issues have led to fewer quota restrictions and, usually, significant quota increases. These outcomes increase jobs, expand the local tax base, provide increased recreational opportunities for the angling public and increase the availability of fresh seafood to the citizens of New York and New Jersey.
