Congressional Award for Young People
Each year, I am proud to honor local high school students who are making
a difference in our community with the Congressional Award.
The idea for the Congressional Award came from a local resident, Dr.
Frank Arlinghaus of Rumson, and the legislation to establish the program
nationally was sponsored by my predecessor, Rep. James J. Howard. As
a result of this and my own efforts to encourage participation in the
Congressional Award, we have a very active program in New Jersey.
The Congressional Award recognizes the initiative, achievement and service
of young people ages 14 to 23. These young people accomplish challenging
goals in voluntary public service, personal development and physical
fitness. They also complete a physically challenging or culturally unique
expedition away from home. These achievements are recognized by the presentation
of bronze, silver and gold Congressional Award medals at ceremonies in
New Jersey and Washington, D.C.
The Congressional Award program is administered out of a private office
separate from Congressional offices. If you are interested in earning
an award, please call the Congressional Award Office at (888) 80-AWARD
or visit www.congressionalaward.org and
you will be sent the necessary information. |
