Surface Transportation High Priority Project Requests
The Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is crafting a new surface transportation authorization bill to replace the current Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU), which expires on September 30, 2009.
This legislation is a six-year bill that authorizes our nation's surface transportation programs and provides funding for local partnership designated as High Priority Projects by Member of Congress. It addresses many of the challenges facing our transportation system today – challenges such as improving safety, reducing traffic congestion, improving efficiency in freight movement, increasing intermodal connectivity, and protecting the environment – as well as laying the groundwork for addressing future challenges.
To ensure the transportation needs of New Jersey’s 10th Congressional District are addressed within the new surface transportation authorization bill, my office has submitted the following requests:

- City of Jersey City, Merseles and Center Street Tunnels

- City of Newark, Riverfront Pathway Development Project
- City of Orange Township, Roadway Resurfacing Project

- County of Union, Roselle Replacement Project
- Hudson County Improvement Authority, Interstate 280 Improvement Project
