Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Operations Appropriations Subcommittee, met today in Washington with Armenian Prime Minister, the Hon. Armen Sarkisian. "I was honored to meet with the Prime Minister to discuss the cooperation between Armenia and the United States."
Rep. Pelosi characterized the meeting as positive: "We discussed how our two great nations can work together to promote regional stability, encourage economic growth, and support democracy in Armenia."
In the FY '97 budget, $95 million was earmarked for Armenia, making it the second largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid per capita.
Rep. Pelosi also praised Armenian-Americans for their long tradition of civic participation which has enriched the American experience.
