Rep. Nancy Pelosi announced today that the San Francisco VA Medical Center will receive up to $4 million over 4 years to establish a Parkinson’s Disease Research, Education and Clinical Center (PADRECC). The goal of the center will be to further the neurological understanding of Parkinson’s Disease while developing treatments, clinical care strategies, and educational support for caregivers and veterans with Parkinson’s Disease.
"On a visit last year to the Fort Miley VA Hospital in San Francisco with the Ranking Democrat on the Veterans’ Affairs Committee Rep. Lane Evans (D-IL), we saw firsthand the pioneering work being done for the needs of veterans of our community and the needs of all Americans who suffer from Parkinson’s Disease," Pelosi said today.
The San Francisco VA Medical Center was one of 6 facilities around the country chosen to receive funding. It will operate as a component of a national VA Consortium while also conducting independent studies encompassing a spectrum of research including basic biomedical, clinical, trials, rehabilitation, and health services delivery.
