Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $1.689 million in Drug Elimination grant funds to the San Francisco Housing Authority to help fight drug dealing in public housing.
"Today's grant will increase the ability of public housing tenants to fight back against drug-related crime in their communities," said Pelosi.
"I thank the Clinton Administration, particularly HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros, for their commitment to improving the quality of life in San Francisco's public housing," added Pelosi. "I also commend Mayor Brown for his efforts to ensure that all San Franciscans have access to safe, decent and affordable housing."
The Public Housing Drug Elimination grant will support community policing in targeted sites. This effort will be complemented by San Francisco Housing Authority prevention resources partnered with community wide resources for resident services. These services will be provided through on-site resource centers and through referral to community programs to create a comprehensive prevention system.
