Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-San Francisco), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, announced today that the Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $17.598 million to San Francisco to fund the City's urgent priorities in addressing homelessness.
"Today's grant is an important acknowledgement of San Francisco's leadership in the fight against homelessness," said Pelosi. "At a time when federal funding for homeless programs has been cut by one-third by the Republican-controlled Congress, this $17.598 million grant will allow our City to implement a comprehensive program to meet the wide-ranging needs of the homeless."
"I thank the Clinton Administration, particularly HUD Secretary Henry Cisneros and Assistant Secretary Andrew Cuomo, for their support of San Francisco's fight against homelessness," added Pelosi. "I commend Mayor Brown for his commitment to addressing homelessness in the City through a comprehensive program to expand housing, employment, and support services for homeless individuals and families."
The McKinney Consolidated Grant funds will target San Francisco's need to provide permanent supportive housing for homeless families, residential and outpatient substance abuse and mental health systems, and training and job placement services for homeless adults and youth.
