Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced that the U.S. Department of Education will provide a $625,000 grant to Mission Accomplish, an Enterprise Community School-to-Work collaborative project located in the Mission District of San Francisco. "This grant will have a significant impact," said Pelosi, "because approximately 800 at-risk students will now be able to receive the direct benefits of work-based learning experiences that will expand awareness of career possibilities."
Mission Accomplish will become fully integrated into San Francisco's School-to-Work framework that connects students, employers, parents, labor, civic organizations, and schools. The career paths currently being emphasized are law, the health sciences, information technology and computers, business and finance, and hospitality and tourism. The program is coordinated by the Office of Community Development in the Office of the Mayor, and key partners include the Chamber of Commerce, San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Labor Council, San Francisco State University, numerous private employers, RAP, Arriba, Mission Hiring Hall, and Instituto Familiar de la Raza.
