The President of the United States took decisive action today to respond to terrorist intentions against U.S. citizens and interests.
As a member of the Intelligence Committee and the Ranking Democrat on the Foreign Operations Appropriations subcommittee, I was contacted by the Administration and told the basis for the targeted bombings in Afghanistan and Sudan. Following the terrorist bombings of the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, there is serious reason to believe that more U.S. citizens and installations would be targeted by these terrorists. Unfortunately, it was necessary for the U.S. to make this preemptive strike to prevent further attacks against Americans.
I view terrorism as the greatest threat to international security. We cannot ignore evidence of terrorist plans to attack U.S. citizens.
