Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced that the AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) in San Francisco received a grant for $3,371,529 from the Health Resources and Services Administration. "AETC's are on the cutting edge of efforts to improve the quality of HIV health care. San Francisco is fortunate to have a dedicated AETC that is making an important difference in the lives of people with HIV," Pelosi said.
The AETC Program is a network of 15 regional centers that conduct targeted, multi-disciplinary education and training programs for health care providers. The centers train those in primary health care, mental health and other health related services. AETCs also collaborate with other programs funded through the Ryan White CARE Act.
As a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor-Health and Human Services-Education, Pelosi has made increased funding for AIDS programs a top priority. Last year, with her strong support, the AETC program received a $2.8 million increase to $20 million.
