Statement on Holocaust Remembrance Day
April 19,
2004
Washington,
D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following
statement today on Yom Hashoah, Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance
Day:
"On Yom Hashoah -- Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance
Day -- we remember the six million Jews who were murdered by the
Nazis while the world stood shamefully silent. We weep for the innocent
lives lost, and we mourn with those who loved them.
"To honor those who perished, we must educate our children
and the world about the horrors of the Holocaust as a part of fighting
resurgent anti-Semitism and intolerance around the globe. To leave
our children a world of peace, we must combat hatred, bigotry, and
extremism wherever they are found and work aggressively to eliminate
the ignorance that is their foundation.
"The memory of the atrocities is a sobering call to reflection
and prayer, and an urgent call to action."
