Pelosi Statement on Saddam Hussein's Capture

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the capture of Saddam Hussein by U.S. forces:

"The capture of Saddam Hussein by U.S. forces is great news for the Iraqi people and a morale boost for our troops. I congratulate President Bush and join him in commending our men and women in uniform and the civilian members of the intelligence community on a job well done. It was their dedication, professionalism and skill that made this success possible.

"Saddam Hussein’s capture could be a significant step toward the achievement of a safe and secure future for the people of Iraq. As the mission continues, I hope we will see an increased willingness to cooperate by Iraqis previously reluctant to assist the efforts to rid the country of Saddam Hussein’s allies."
