Pelosi Wins
$55 Million for Bay Area Shipping and Wetlands Restoration Projects

Washington,
D.C. -- The House of Representatives passed the Fiscal Year 2005
Energy and Water Appropriations Conference Report today, which includes
a number of projects requested by House Democratic Leader Nancy
Pelosi.
"These
projects are essential to keeping our waterways both clean and accessible
for San Francisco Bay Area residents today and into the future,"
Pelosi said.
Pelosi also
obtained funding for the following San Francisco-related projects:
- San Francisco
Bay Drift Removal, to remove floating debris and hazards to navigation
from the waters of the Bay -- $3.3 million
- San Francisco
Harbor, maintenance dredging of ship channels -- $2.25 million
- Long Term
Management Strategy for the Placement of Dredged Material in the
San Francisco Bay Region, to dispose of dredged material in an
environmentally-sound manner -- $1.25 million
- Ocean Beach,
study of erosion -- $200,000
- Oakland
Harbor 50-foot channel deepening project -- $35 million
The following
projects were requested by Pelosi along with her Bay Area colleagues
and funded by the House of Representatives:
- Oakland
Harbor maintenance dredging -- $7.098 million
- Hamilton
Airfield Wetlands restoration project -- $6.1 million
- San Pablo
Bay watershed restoration -- $400,000
- Napa River
Salt Marsh restoration -- $250,000
