Pelosi Statement on President’s Efforts to Reform Government Contracting

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today regarding President Obama’s initiative to reform government contracting:

“The President’s plan for procurement reform is a common sense approach—in good economic times or bad. The House led the way in the last Congress to begin to crack down on no-bid contracts, expose contractors found to have committed fraud, link payment to performance, and provide much stronger oversight and transparency.

“The explosion of federal dependence on private contractors under the Bush Administration and the mandate to restore public confidence in how we spend taxpayer dollars mean that it’s time for a top-to-bottom review on how to thoroughly reform our government contracting process. We will work closely with the President in his procurement reform efforts.”
