Pelosi:
'DoD Bill a Small Step Toward Ending Disabled Veterans Tax, But
Does Not Go Far Enough'
November
24, 2003
Washington,
D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following
statement today on President Bush's signing of the Defense Authorization
Act:
"On the
battlefields of war, our soldiers pledge to leave no one behind.
As a nation, it must be our pledge that, after our soldiers come
home, we will leave no veteran behind. Our veterans served for all
of us; we must be there for all of them.
"The bill
the President signed today is a small step toward helping our disabled
veterans, but does not go nearly far enough. Under the Republican
plan, two-thirds of our veterans still will not receive one penny
of compensation for their disabilities. For those who are helped,
the tax may not fully end for 10 years. That is not good enough.
"America's
veterans deserve better. Democrats will continue to fight to end
the disabled veterans tax for all veterans."
