Pelosi Statement
on Bush Supplemental Funding Request
September
8, 2003
Washington,
D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following
statement today in response to President Bushs speech last
night requesting $67 billion dollars of military spending in Iraq
and Afghanistan and $20 billion of infrastructure spending:
"President
Bush owes the American people a full accounting of what has already
been spent in Iraq and a detailed plan for future spending. Already
facing a nearly half trillion-dollar deficit, American taxpayers
deserve to know how this spending will affect our ability to address
the unmet needs in our own country.
"Congress
will provide our service men and women with whatever resources they
need to accomplish their mission. The Presidents spending
request on infrastructure will be subjected to a higher level of
scrutiny."
