Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today applauded the release of the Institute of Medicine report, Lesbian Health: Current Assessment and Directions for the Future. "Lesbians have been invisible in the health care system and health research for far too long. The IOM report is an excellent first step in addressing the health risks and health care needs of this population. The report should spur further research on this issue, and greater attention to the needs of lesbian health care consumers."
Pelosi will press for full implementation of the report as a member of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education. This subcommittee funds the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and other agencies responsible for implementation of the IOM report.
