Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi announced today that the House Appropriations Committee has approved key projects that promise a better environmental and economic future for San Francisco Bay. "These projects," said the San Francisco Democrat, "represent an important investment in the commercial potential of San Francisco Bay."
The projects directly affecting the City of San Francisco and their funding levels are as follows:
San Francisco Harbor & Bay Drift Removal $2.473 million
This funding provides for the collection of floating debris in the Bay to ensure navigation safety. Over 450 tons of drift and debris are removed annually, particularly important in light of recent storms and floods.
San Francisco Harbor $2.441 million
This appropriation funds general maintenance of the Bay's shipping channels.
San Francisco Bay Rock Removal $800,000
This study reviews removal of obstacles to navigation in San Francisco Bay.
San Francisco Bay Delta Model $2.289 million
The Bay Delta Model is an education and science center that studies the tides, outflows, and general environmental health of San Francisco Bay.
