Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) today announced a $16.7 million Housing and Urban Development public housing modernization grant for the San Francisco Housing Authority. "One of the basic necessities of life is shelter. By improving the quality of the city's public housing stock, we improve the quality of life for our citizens," Pelosi said.
The Public Housing Modernization program is part of HUD's Comprehensive Grant Program. The San Francisco Housing Authority receives annual funding as part of this program. This year's grant will support major renovations to buildings and apartments throughout the city's public housing system. It will also support the continuing efforts of the SFHA's Family Sweep and Senior Sweep programs which serve to improve family housing and senior housing units.
Congresswoman Pelosi commends the Clinton Administration, especially HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo, for recognizing the needs of San Francisco's public housing residents and the Housing Authority's ability to meet those needs through the use of this grant.
