Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) announced today that the San Francisco Early Childhood Information System Project has received a grant of $150,167 under the Telecommunications and Information Infrastructure Assistance Program (TIIAP) sponsored by the Department of Commerce.
The grant will be used to create an on-line information system to facilitate coordination and collaboration among agencies, planning organizations, and others concerned with the well-being of young children in San Francisco.
"I am pleased to see the recognition of the development of the San Francisco Early Childhood Information System," said Rep. Pelosi. "I commend President Clinton and the youth advocates of San Francisco for making the needs of people who serve our children a priority in information technology."
The goal of the TIIAP project is to provide improved access to statistical and demographic data regarding children in the Bay Area. The on-line information system will allow users to determine the demand and supply of early childhood services and to use this information in planning and service delivery.
"This system will help providers of childhood assistance to target underserved areas," said Rep. Pelosi. "We will be able to match the specific needs of programs and communities with the federal, state and local funds available to them."
Partners in this project include the Bay Area Women's and Children's Center, California Child Care Resource and Referral Network, Child Care Law Center, Children's Council of San Francisco, Department of Social Services, Pacific Early Childhood Institute, San Francisco Unified School District, Mayor's Office of Children, Youth and Their Families, San Francisco Head Start, and Wu Yee Children's Services.
