Oshkosh, Winnebago County Receive Police Grants
Congressman Tom Petri reports that the U.S. Department of Justice has awarded a $10,000 grant to the City of Oshkosh to purchase tasers. "The funds should enable the police department to equip all its officers on duty with this tool, which is designed to increase officer, public and offender safety while enforcing the law," he said.

Assistance for NewPage Workers Okayed, Petri Says
Congressmen Tom Petri reports that the U.S. Department of Labor has approved Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) for the employees affected by the upcoming shutdown of the NewPage Corporation's Kimberly Mill. On Aug. 6, Petri and Rep. Steve Kagen wrote to the Department in support of the aid.

Higher Education Reforms, Including Petri Provisions, Pass House
WASHINGTON - By a vote of 380 to 49Thursday afternoon, the House approved the first major overhaul in a decade of federal law governing higher education. The Higher Education Opportunity Act, as negotiated in conference with the Senate, includes key reforms to ensure access, accountability, affordability and quality in higher education, including provisions authored by Rep.
