| Assistance
With Federal Agencies If
you are a resident of Mississippi's
Third Congressional District and
are having problems with a federal
agency, please contact one of Congressman
Pickering's district offices for
assistance. (If you are not a resident
of Third District, in keeping with
the long-standing tradition of
Congressional Courtesy, your request
will be forwarded to the appropriate
Representative.) Congressman Pickering
has district offices located
in
Rankin County, Meridian, Starkville,
Brookhaven, and Natchez to serve
the needs of Third District residents
in their dealings with all agencies
and departments of the federal
government. The district offices
can assist you in working with
the Internal
Revenue Service, Immigration
and Naturalization Service, Social
Security Administration, Department
of Veterans Affairs, and the Department
of State.
Under the provisions of the Privacy
Act of 1974, Congressman Pickering
must have formal authorization
from you before making an inquiry
to a federal agency on your behalf.
This law was enacted to protect
individuals from unauthorized disclosure
of personal information without
their consent. This authorization
usually can be made by completing
and sending this form (link
in pdf). If more authorization
is required, the caseworker helping
you will contact you.
[As a federal legislator Congressman
Pickering has no authority to intervene
in matters that fall under the
jurisdiction of the state of Mississippi.
Some examples of state matters
are: Medicaid, food stamps, child
support, insurance regulation,
or utility regulation. You should
contact the Governor or your State
Legislators for assistance with
these matters by logging onto www.mississippi.gov
the State of Mississippi web site.
If this contact is regarding a
legal matter, congressmen are not
allowed to intervene in the proceedings
of any court of law (including
appeal proceedings), since these
are activities of the judicial
branch of government. If you are
having a legal problem involving
the courts or prison system, you
may need to contact the Justice
Department or consider help from
an attorney.]
If you need help with these or
other government agencies, you
may contact Congressman Pickering
or his staff at any of the district
offices:
