Electronic Warfare Working Group unveils new website

Washington—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16), Founder and Co-Chairman of the Electronic Warfare Working Group (EWWG), today unveiled the group’s new website.  The website can be accessed at http://www.house.gov/pitts/ew.htm.

“Electronic warfare is vital to our success in the war on terror and critical to the safety of our soldiers.  And the Internet is an important tool for communicating the importance EW plays in nation’s security.  Our new presence on the web will be a resource to bring more attention to the need for Congress to address this issue,” said Congressman Pitts.

Founded in 1999, the EWWG is “a focused, bipartisan task force that serves as a resource to Members of Congress and the defense community to educate them about the importance of EW and hold DoD accountable in its commitment to strengthen its EW assets and capabilities.”

The EW Working Group will focus on the following issues, among others, during the 108th Congress:

  • Continue efforts to raise awareness of the need for protection of passenger airlines from the threat of surface-to-air missiles;

  • EA-6B Prowler: Mission Capability and ICAP III;

  • Develop and deploy detection and counter-measures for ground and air forces;

  • 2005 Round of BRAC – ensure EW/IO resources are not diminished;

  • Increase EW&IO Research and Development Funding; and

  • The Role of UAVs and UCAVs in an Electronic Warfare.

As a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Congressman Pitts served three tours of duty in combat in Vietnam as a navigator and EW officer on-board a B-52.  His practical experience and background in EW has given him an understanding of the EW needs of our military.  He strongly believes that the EW Working Group will continue to play an essential role in raising awareness about the importance of EW assets and capabilities.
