Military
receives funding boost under defense spending bill
Washington
—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) last night voted in favor of H.R. 2863,
the Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2006.
Under the legislation, the Department of Defense would receive $409
billion in FY2006. This figure
includes $363.7 billion in ongoing costs for the military and 45.3 billion
in a “bridge fund” for military operations in
Iraq
and
Afghanistan
.
“
America
relies on the men and women who protect us.
Those men and women rely on us to get them the resources they need to
do their job. This bill does
that and plans for ongoing costs associated with wars in
Iraq
and
Afghanistan
,” said Congressman Pitts.
