September 28, 2005 Rep. Pitts statement on Blunt, Delay Washington—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) today welcomed the election of House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (R, MO-07) to be interim Majority Leader in the House. “Roy is a good friend and a leader who has proven his commitment to the conservative values of fiscal restraint, a strong national defense, and traditional family values. We have a full agenda this fall. And Roy Blunt has earned this opportunity to lead our party through a difficult time,” said Congressman Pitts. Earlier today, House Majority Leader Tom Delay was indicted on conspiracy charges by Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle, who has also brought charges against other elected Republicans in Texas only to have his charges thrown out in court. Congressman Pitts commented on the Delay case saying, “I’m deeply troubled by these allegations and deeply suspicious of the motives of those bringing them. Tom Delay is an effective leader and has had a target on his back for years. This prosecutor has been gunning for him and he clearly has a partisan agenda. But this nation is governed by laws, not by men. A court of law will decide Tom’s fate, not a vindictive Democratic prosecutor. Let’s allow the process to take its course. In the meantime, we have work to do. And Roy is just the guy we need to get the job done.” # # # |
