Congressman Pitts Comments on State of the Union AddressWashington-Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) made the following statement tonight regarding the President’s State of the Union Address: “President Bush understands that these are historic times for America. In addition to the ongoing war overseas, our nation faces significant challenges here at home. Times like these demand steadfast leadership, and that is what I saw President Bush exhibit tonight. “We were reminded that no issue is more important than the security of our homeland. Since the September 11 terrorist attacks in the early months of his presidency, President Bush has shown unwavering commitment to winning the global war against terrorism. He reaffirmed that commitment tonight. “I also appreciated President Bush’s leadership on issues here at home. He made it clear that America is at its best when America leads. His comments rightly placed a high priority on America’s continued competitiveness in the global economy. “I agree that in order to remain competitive we must expand access to affordable healthcare to more Americans and find alternative sources of energy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.” “The President tonight outlined his vision for moving America forward and I look forward to working with him and my colleagues in Congress this year to get the job done.” ### |
