Congressman Pitts Calls for
Passage of Holly’s Law

Legislation Would Suspend FDA Approval of RU-486 Due to Evidence of the Drug’s Health Threat

Washington—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) joined members of the medical community and several other House Members at a press conference Wednesday to call for passage of H.R. 1079, also known as Holly’s Law.

Congressman Pitts’ statement follows:

“Though the evidence shows that RU-486 is a dangerous and even life-threatening drug, neither the drug’s manufacturer nor the FDA has so far shown a willingness to pull it from the market.

“Faced with this reluctance to pull a known health threat from the shelf, Congress has the duty to take action.  And that is exactly what Holly’s Law will do.”

Background:

Named after Holly Patterson, who died after taking the abortion drug RU-486, Holly’s Law would suspend the FDA’s approval of the drug and direct the Government Accounting Office to review the drug’s approval process.
