Congressman Pitts Supports Fatherhood Resolution

Washington – Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) voted today for H. Res. 318, a resolution supporting responsible fatherhood, promoting marriage, and encouraging greater involvement of fathers in the lives of their children.  The House passed H. Res. 318 by a vote of 403-0.

“With Father’s Day approaching, this is a great opportunity to reaffirm the tremendous value of fatherhood in our culture,” Congressman Pitts said.  “Though we often hear about deadbeat and delinquent dads, there are millions of committed fathers in America striving to be loving husbands and positive role models for their kids.  This bill simply honors fatherhood and recognizes the invaluable role it plays in promoting a healthy society.”

Background

Responsible fatherhood plays an enormous role in the lives of children.  According to the National Fatherhood Initiative, children with involved, loving fathers are significantly more likely to:

  • Perform well in school
  • Have healthy self-esteem
  • Exhibit empathy and pro-social behavior
  • Avoid drug use, truancy and criminal activity
