February 1, 2007 Rep. Pitts Announces Grant for Firefighting Operations in Wernersville Washington—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) today announced that the Citizens Hose Company No. 1 in Wernersville has been awarded a federal grant totaling $47,500 for firefighting operations and safety efforts. “When disaster strikes, local firefighters are the first to respond,” Congressman Pitts said. “Their dedication improves the safety and security of everyone, and I’m pleased to see them receive this well-deserved grant.” The grant was awarded by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under the Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) program. Through the AFG program, DHS awards grants to firefighters, emergency response personnel and first responders throughout the country to enhance response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public. The grants provide resources for local fire departments and emergency medical service programs to purchase or receive training, conduct first responder health and safety programs, and buy equipment and response vehicles. ### |
