Congressman
Pitts’ Statement on Washington—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) issued the following statement today regarding President Bush’s proposed federal budget for fiscal year 2008: “The President’s budget proposal is a good step toward putting our fiscal house back in order. Perhaps most importantly, this budget shows that we can balance the budget without raising taxes on hardworking American families. The tax relief passed by Congress in 2001 and 2003 has spurred tremendous economic growth and I support the President’s call for making this relief permanent. This budget also addresses the urgent need to reform and strengthen unsustainable entitlement programs – something I believe must be a priority on Capitol Hill. The President’s budget will be received by a Democratically-controlled Congress, but I’m hopeful both parties can work together to enact fiscally responsible spending policies without raising taxes on the American people.” ### |
