April 2, 2007 Congressman Pitts Announces Open Season for Firefighting Grants Washington—Congressman Joe Pitts (R, PA-16) announced today that the 2007 application period for Department of Homeland Security (DHS) firefighting grants has now begun. Congress has provided DHS with $547 million to fund their Assistance to Firefighter Grant Program (AFG) during fiscal year 2007. These grants are awarded to local firefighters across the country to increase the effectiveness of firefighting and emergency response operations, and to improve firefighter health and safety. Congressman Pitts encourages interested fire companies in Pennsylvania’s 16th Congressional District to consider the AFG program when planning how to fund their public safety operations.
