Democrats Propose Irresponsible Budget

Political leaders should be making the same difficult choices as American families

Washington– Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) issued the following statement today after House Democrats released their proposed budget for fiscal year 2009.

Congressman Pitts’ statement follows:

“This budget is exactly what I would expect from a party that believes in bigger government and more taxes to pay for it.  This budget just continues with runaway government spending and makes no attempt to address the impending entitlement crisis.  I find it ironic that such a budget would be released at a time when American families are already having to make tough budget decisions at the kitchen table.  Unfortunately, Democrats in the House chose not to make the difficult budget decisions here in Congress.”

Background

House Democrats are proposing a budget that includes the largest tax hike in American history, tens of billions in new Washington spending and no meaningful reform to address the entitlement tsunami that is looming in the near future.  The Democrat budget includes a $683 billion tax increase.  Under their proposed budget, 116 million taxpayers will be hit with an average tax hike of $1,833.  Additionally, the budget proposal increases spending by $276 billion above the President’s budget over 5 years.
