Immediate Release Rep. Pitts Visits Tax Preparation Site Pitts hears from constituents about tax concerns Washington– Congressman Joe Pitts (PA-16) visited the Lancaster site for the Volunteer Income Tax Program (VITA) today to speak with constituents about taxes and the upcoming stimulus rebate. VITA is a national program sponsored by local organizations that offers free assistance to low- to moderate-income people who cannot prepare their own tax returns. Rep. Pitts spoke with both tax preparation volunteers as well as patrons about their thoughts and concerns regarding taxes. Congressman Pitts’ statement follows: “Tax season isn’t pleasant for anyone, but tax preparation can be very difficult for some individuals,” Congressman Pitts said. “I was pleased to see volunteers with the VITA program who are able to help people get their taxes submitted. This is especially important this tax season as individuals will need to submit a 2007 tax return in order to become eligible for a rebate check through the economic stimulus plan passed by Congress. “I was also able to speak with constituents about their concerns regarding taxes, and not surprisingly, people do not want to send more money to the federal government. This is a very important message for a Congress that has just passed a budget proposing the largest tax increase in U.S. history. It may be just numbers on paper to other Members of Congress, but I know people in Lancaster think they send enough money to the government already.” ### |
