President Ronald Reagan, 1911-2004The House this week will be setting aside time to honor former President Ronald Reagan, who died on Saturday. “Inheriting a weak economy and a national psyche disheartened by the Iran hostage crisis, President Reagan was able to restore the Nation's confidence,” Congressman Todd Platts said in reflecting on the Reagan legacy. “His optimism was contagious. He believed that the best days for America lie ahead, not in the past.” Ronald Reagan's body will lie in state in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. on a catafalque constructed originally for Abraham Lincoln. He is the 10th president to lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda. Visitors may enter the Capitol Building to pay their respects to the former President from 8:30 pm on Wednesday, June 9, through at least the full 24 hours of Thursday, June 10.
