Enewsletter from Congressman Todd Russell Platts, Representing the People of the 19th District of Pennsylvania

President Gerald R. Ford, 1913-2006

President Gerald R. Ford's body will lie in state in the Rotunda of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. over the New Year's weekend.  The viewing of President Ford's body is scheduled to be open to the public tentatively from 7:00 pm to midnight on Saturday, December 30th, as well as from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm on both Sunday, December 31st and Monday, January 1st.  The following is a statement issued by Congressman Todd Russell Platts on the news of the passing of President Ford:

"As one who first became politically active in 9th grade during the 1976 presidential election and who campaigned door-to-door in York County for President Ford during that election, I was greatly saddened to learn of the President's passing.  I have long admired and respected President Ford and was honored to meet him when he returned to the House of Representatives a few years back in celebration of his 90th birthday.

Gerald R. Ford became President of the United States in the wake of the Watergate scandal.  A man of fundamental decency and notable integrity, President Ford pulled the country away from the brink of a constitutional crisis and began the process of rebuilding the people's confidence in their government.  In the short time he had as President, Mr. Ford left the institution far better off than when he entered it, an accomplishment to be celebrated by all Americans.  I am thankful that this devoted public servant was there when the country most needed him.  My thoughts and prayers are with his family in their time of need."
