Pryce Statement on Senate Immigration Package

Columbus, Ohio – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) issued the following statement in response to the immigration deal reached in the Senate this week:

“Any package that grants immediate legal status to 12 million illegal aliens is a form of amnesty. Further, allowing the vast majority of illegal aliens to remain in the U.S. indefinitely while awaiting a green card is a disservice to those pursuing American citizenship through legal means.

“The United States already has a path to citizenship that is utilized by about 1 million people a year – it begins by applying legally, waiting your turn in line, and earning American citizenship according to our nation’s needs. While the process is far from perfect, it is equitable.

“The Senate package surrenders to an illegal immigration battle it appears unwilling to fight. While it would be folly to believe that we can or should make our nation impervious to illegal immigration, through a combination of increased security at the border, greater immigration enforcement, and better tools for employers to easily and more reliably determine the immigration status of prospective workers, America can make this problem manageable.”
