Pryce Secures Funding for Area Priorities in Energy and Water Appropriations
WASHINGTON, DC– Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Columbus) announced the inclusion of funding she sought for several important area projects in the Fiscal Year 2008 Energy and Water Appropriations bill. The bill, H.R. 2641, passed the House on Tuesday by a vote of 312-112.
“I am proud to have secured funding for these central Ohio priorities,” said Pryce. “These projects represent important economic, infrastructural, and research initiatives, they create jobs and stimulate our economy, and they help add to the quality of life for central Ohio residents. I am happy that the federal government will continue to play a meaningful role in helping to meet our community's needs.”
Funding initiatives in H.R. 2641 secured by Pryce:
- $1 million – Columbus Children’s Hospital Imaging Equipment (joint request with Congressman Dave Hobson (R-Springfield) : For imaging equipment to support research into muscular dystrophy and pediatric cancer.
- $400,000 – Timberlake Subdivision – To assist residents of the subdivision who were abandoned by their sewer and water provider. While Franklin County assumed ownership of the wastewater plant, sewers, wells, and waterlines, it required residents to pay for the costs of upgrading the facility either by lump sum or through a significant increase in their property taxes.
- $800,000 – Marysville Water Treatment Facility – Toward the construction of a new, expanded $79 million Marysville Water Reclamation Facility, which is expected to begin operations in late 2008.
- $1.2 million – Fifth Avenue Dam removal – Toward removal of the aging dam on the Olentangy River. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has advocated for the dam’s removal to allow for riparian corridor restoration, and to help create an environment hospitable to fish, mussels, and other aquatic species found in other parts of the River.
- $2 million –Advanced laser-target interaction laboratory at The Ohio State University (joint request with Congressman Dave Hobson (R-Springfield) – For a High Density Laser Facility located on OSU’s campus, and is a collaboration among OSU and laboratories of the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA).
The Energy and Water Appropriations bill, H.R. 2641, passed the House on Tuesday. Funding levels in the appropriations measure will be finalized after a conference agreement is reached with the Senate and the bill is signed by the President.
