Columbus , Ohio – Congresswoman Deborah Pryce participated in a ground breaking ceremony for the intermodal yard located at Rickenbacker Airport. Pryce has been working closely with the central Ohio Congressional delegation to secure $21.5 million for the project in the House-passed transportation reauthorization bill (TEA-LU). Congress expects to vote on final passage of TEA-LU by week’s end. “This new transportation hub will help to solidify Columbus’s role as a national and international logistics and distribution center, and fulfill central Ohio’s decade long goal of being an inland port,” Pryce said. “More importantly, the hub will be a shot of adrenaline in the central Ohio economy, creating jobs and spurring profound economic growth in the region. I am proud to have worked hand-in-hand with Congressmen Dave Hobson and Pat Tiberi in pushing for this funding over the past two years during the bill’s consideration.” “If we are able to maximize Rickenbacker’s intermodal rail capacity, we will create 20,000 new jobs and add an additional 34 million square feet of development to what is already the largest industrial park and distribution complex in central Ohio,” Pryce said in her address to the attendees. “Rarely have I, as a Member of Congress, been able to be involved with one specific project that will have the economic impact of this magnitude for our community.” The intermodal yard represents a strategic and coordinated partnership among the central Ohio Congressional Delegation, the State, Franklin and Pickaway Counties, the Columbus Regional Airport Authority, the business community, and Norfolk Southern. The hub is expected to become operational by 2006. Congresswoman Pryce represents the Fifteenth District of Ohio, which includes Western Franklin County, Madison, and Union Counties. She serves as Chairman of the House Republican Conference for the 109th Congress, making her the fourth ranking member of House leadership. The Congresswoman also co-chairs the Cancer Caucus. |
