Pryce Welcomes Jose Aponte – Puerto Rican
Speaker of the House of Representatives  

Washington, D.C . – On Tuesday, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Upper Arlington) met with the Puerto Rican Speaker of the House of Representatives, Jose Aponte, and afterward issued the following statement:

“I was happy to have the opportunity to welcome Speaker Aponte and express my admiration for his impressive commitment to public service in his native Puerto Rico,” said Pryce. “I was also pleased to share with him how the House Republican agenda continues to improve the lives of the growing number of Hispanic Americans in our country. From protecting our country against terrorism, to supporting small businesses and promoting strong family values, we are committed to advancing the American dream for Hispanic Americans.”

Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Speaker Jose Aponte has spent his life in service to the people of Puerto Rico, and has been the Speaker of the House of Representatives since the 2004 elections. Puerto Ricans have been United States citizens since 1917, and the island of Puerto Rico has been a US commonwealth since 1952.

Joining Pryce and Speaker Aponte in the discussion were U.S. Representatives Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), and Charles Dent (R-PA).
