Pryce, Tiberi Secure $2 million Funding for
Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio

Money Furthers SWACO’s Environmentally Innovative Pyramid Resource Center

WASHINGTON , DC – Today, Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (R-Upper Arlington) and Congressman Pat Tiberi (R-Delaware Co.) announced the inclusion of $2 million for the Solid Waste Authority of Central Ohio (SWACO) in the Conference Report to the FY2006 Energy and Water Appropriations bill, which is expected to pass the House and Senate this week before being signed into law by President Bush.

This targeted federal funding will help fund SWACO's Pyramid Resource Center, a 232 acre, international economic development complex located in Grove City which will cater to environmentally resourceful companies and industries.  Upon completion, businesses that locate at the complex will derive much of their electricity from SWACO's Green Energy Center, which will produce energy from the methane gas that comes from the Authority’s Franklin County Landfill.   The Pyramid will also serve as a training and research incubator for solid waste professionals from around the world.

Upon learning of the funds for SWACO, Pryce said, “The Pyramid Center is a win-win scenario for everyone – significant economic development in southwestern Franklin County, new jobs for people in the area, and a recycled energy source powering a state-of-the-art business and industrial complex.”

Congressman Tiberi added, "Two things are on everyone's mind these days--energy and jobs. This assistance can lead to more of both for our area."

"SWACO is very thankful for the hard work and efforts on the part of Representatives Pryce and Tiberi," says SWACO Executive Director Mike Long.  "We look forward as well to strong support from the State of Ohio and local communities as we build this hub for green businesses.  This truly will be a strong public-private partnership that will benefit Central Ohioans for many years to come.”

The Pyramid development will be located across from the landfill just north of London-Groveport Road.
