Wine Caucus Opposes California
Excise Tax Increase
July 2002 - A bi-partisan Congressional coalition is calling on California
Governor Gray Davis to oppose state legislation increasing the tax on wine
by 25 cents/gallon. In a letter to Davis written and circulated by Reps.
Mike Thompson and George Radanovich, co-chairs of the Congressional Wine
Caucus, the Representatives state that the tax increase would be a major
hit on California's premium wine industry. The California Legislature is
considering legislation increasing the tax on wine by 25 cents/gallon to
help make up the state's budget shortfall. The letter is signed by the
following 25 Members of Congress.
