CONGRESSMAN HALL ON THE ISSUES
Veterans
I have strongly supported Veterans of the 4th District ever since I set foot in Washington. We have an obligation to our brave men and women who serve, and they deserve nothing but the best care when they return home. In our 12 years in the majority, House Republicans wrote budgets that boosted funding for veterans’ medical care by nearly 90 percent. The VA leads the health care industry in computerized records, patient safety and standards for high-quality care, but recent revelations at Walter Reed Hospital and others demonstrated that we must be ever vigilant, while checking the authenticity of the revelations. Walter Reed has served our veterans long and well.
However, in response to reports of substandard conditions at an outpatient facility at Walter Reed, the House has recently passed the Wounded Warriors Assistance Act of 2007, which improves the management of medical care, personnel actions, and quality of life issues for members of the Armed Services. This is a good first step to reaffirming our commitment to provide quality care to those who have served our country bravely.
