RAMSTAD SUPPORTS TAX CUT BILL;
AUTHORS PROVISIONS FOR SLAIN POLICE OFFICERS FAMILIES, CHARITIES
WASHINGTON Ways and Means Committee member Jim Ramstad (R-MN) supported passage of the tax relief bill by the U.S. House today.
"Now that Congress has locked away $1.9 trillion for preserving Social Security and Medicare and with taxes at record levels, I believe the current tax overpayment should be returned to the taxpayers who paid it before Washington finds a way to spend it," said Ramstad.
"With the federal government currently collecting taxes at the highest level in peacetime history, Minnesota families need a break," said Ramstad.
"Its totally appropriate to return one-third of the surplus to the taxpayers who created it," said Ramstad. "We are returning part of the federal surplus to the taxpayers, just like Governor Ventura and the Minnesota Legislature are returning part of the states surplus."
Ramstad, Co-Chair of the House Law Enforcement Caucus and a member of the House Hunger Caucus, successfully added two amendments to the bill. One helps the families of slain police officers and another helps charities attract volunteer drivers for critical services like transporting elderly patients to the doctor and food to the hungry.
