RAMSTAD HAILS PASSAGE OF
H.R. 5, THE SENIOR CITIZENS' FREEDOM TO WORK ACT

WASHINGTON – Ways and Means Committee member Jim Ramstad (R-MN) hailed today's passage by the U.S. House of important legislation to repeal the Social Security earnings limit.

"It is high time that Congress repealed the unfair and unjust earnings limit, which penalizes seniors and denies our society the benefit of their work skills," said Ramstad.

"Passage of this bill today is a win-win situation for all Americans," said Ramstad. "It is a win for seniors, who will be able to keep the money they need, retain the independence they deserve, and enjoy the personal fulfillment they feel from contributing to society. And it is a win for the growing American economy, which will greatly benefit from this experienced, dedicated and talented group of American workers, especially as our economy struggles to deal with today's tight labor market."

"As a member of the Ways and Means Committee, I am a proud sponsor of this legislation. It is the right thing to do and it is the fair thing to do," said Ramstad. "Passage of this important bill is long overdue."
