RAMSTAD INTRODUCES
LEGISLATION TO
COVER
TROOPS' TRAVEL EXPENSES
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN)
today introduced legislation that would extend the U.S. military’s “Rest and
Relaxation” program to cover domestic travel expenses.
The U.S. military recently began employing its first “Rest and Relaxation”
program since the Vietnam War. All soldiers who have served 12 straight months
qualify for “R & R” and some 700 soldiers per day are currently returning to the
U.S. to see their families.
“We owe it to our brave troops returning from the war zone to cover their travel
expenses home,” said Ramstad.
“Too many of our brave troops find themselves stranded at an airport far from
their homes or families, with airline ticket fares too expensive for many troops
to afford,” said Ramstad.
“That’s why I recently introduced legislation in the House that would extend the
military’s “R & R” program to include travel expenses to our troops’ hometowns,”
said Ramstad.
“This is an appropriate way for the American people to thank our brave troops
for their many sacrifices in defense of freedom,” said Ramstad.
