HOUSE PASSES RAMSTAD’S TAX RELIEF BILL FOR MILITARY

WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Jim Ramstad (R-MN) today hailed passage of legislation providing tax relief to members of the Armed Forces.  The legislation included a bill, authored by Rep. Ramstad, to aid members of the National Guard and Reserve.

“I am particularly grateful that the military tax benefit I wrote was included to provide tax relief for out-of-pocket training expenses of National Guard and Reserve personnel,” Ramstad said.

“Over 225,000 members of the Guard and Reserve travel more than 150 miles from home for training exercises, and they incur significant out-of-pocket training expenses, which are often more costly than their compensation for service,” Ramstad said.  “My legislation will allow these members to deduct up to $1,500 of their training expenses from their taxes each year.”

“This legislation could not come at a more crucial time for the brave men and women serving our country,” said Ramstad.  “This is the very least we can do for the hundreds of thousands of men and women serving our country in harm’s way.”
