RAMSTAD VOTES FOR INTELLIGENCE REFORM BILL
WASHINGTON – U.S. Rep. Ramstad (MN-03) voted today for legislation to restructure and strengthen our nation’s intelligence community and enact the major recommendations of the 9/11 Commission.
“This legislation is critical to improving our intelligence gathering functions to prevent further terrorist attacks,” said Ramstad.
“Our intelligence community needs better coordination of operations and exchange of information, and that’s why we need an overall director of national intelligence and a national counterterrorism center,” said Ramstad.
“Centralizing authority over the 15 federal intelligence agencies in a director of national intelligence will put an end to the turf battles that have hindered our intelligence capabilities,” said Ramstad.
“As an original co-sponsor of the intelligence reform legislation, I applaud the 9/11 Commission for initiating these comprehensive reforms to improve homeland security and defeat terrorism,” said Ramstad.
“I’m also grateful the legislation was revised to protect our brave troops on the battlefield by ensuring their direct and immediate access to intelligence will not be hindered,” said Ramstad.
“While these intelligence reforms are needed to improve homeland security, Congress also needs to address the unresolved immigration provisions as soon as possible,” said Ramstad.
